John is a former professional footballer having played for Oldham Athletic, Rochdale and Kramfors (Sweden) during the 1980s.

After retiring he spent seven years in Leisure Management for the Greater Manchester Police and a further eight years as the Northwest Regional Director for the National Football in the Community Programme working closely with Chief Executives at Premier League and Football League Clubs.

John is now Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and his role highlights the positive impact and pivotal role of PFA members in support of Community, Education, and Charitable work.

He represents the PFA on many committees, including the Premier League/PFA Community Fund, the Football League Trust, the Princes Trust and Sports Chaplaincy UK, whilst also supporting the extensive equalities work of the union. He also acts as an advisor to FIFPro in all aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility.
